growing purple brocoli and mange tout in a shady place

    will they grow? it is light shade and gets sun late afternoon early evening. I have planted them in tubs for the kids to look after and are on my decking. please help

    It's difficult to be categoric because people's definition of "light" shade can be highly variable.

    I think the mangetouts will do better than the purple (sprouting?) broccoli. The broccoli needs a long growing season and if the light levels are poor, you'll just end up with spindly plants growing at odd angles.

    It's worth a shot. If they don't thrive, could you move them elsewhere in their tubs?

    Yes they can tolerate a bit of shade. Watch out for butterflies getting on the broccoli and laying their eggs, the kids might think its great but he caterpillars will strip the leaves.
