    Hi,
Does anyone have any experience for growing roses from seed? I bought some black rose seeds online (sounded too good to be true) Have no seedlings so far(more than 3 months). This is what I have tried:
    1. putting seeds in freezer for few days and then soaking in warm water and then sowing and keeping at room temperature
    2. Soaked a few seeds in warm water for few days and then keeping them in teh fridge so that they sprout.
No results in both the cases :(
    Any suggestions welcome..

Hello minki, Deep breath and here goes with the bad news.....even if your rose seeds do germinate, it's very unlikely that they'll produce a copy of the rose pictured and even more unlikely that they'll be the black portrayed on the site. Sorry:sofa:. Roses, like many other plants, have to be propagated from grafts or cuttings to produce plants that are true to the parent. On the bright side, hopefully you didn't spend a fortune on the seeds! If you cover the trays or pots with some fine grit and leave them outdoors in a fairly sheltered place they'll probably germinate naturally when the weather warms up in Spring. But be prepared for wild, species-type flowers from the seedlings.

      Dear Noisette47,
Thanks very much for your reply. I have always grown roses from cuttings or bought plants from local nursery and this was the first time I decided to take a chance:eeew:. I bought seeds for £1, so not a huge loss, eh!
Looking at the bright side, reading :pcthwack:about growing plants from seeds had taught me a lot about seed sowing techniques...
I just going to put my seeds out now and let the nature take its course... :spinning:

:blue thumb:Attagirl. Everyone who gardens is learning all the time.....
It sounds as though you'll have lots to look after if all the seeds on your list germinate!
