hi, i am having a lot of probems growing several types of saxifraga, they always die in the winter. some just turn brown, some lose all the roots. :( i've been told they are getting too wet. if this is true does anyone know a good mix ratio for the compost. [IMG]

For saxifraga's the bst thing to do is mix 50/50 of soil or compost with horticulural grit in the planting holes or compost. And dress around the plant at soil surface with hort grit, Some saxifraga's do go brow in the middle during the winter, those that do can be split and turned into several plants, discarding the brown section. They don't like a wet crown, so if you are growing them outside, you could protect them with a bell cloche or similar. Hope this helps.

Some of them also do not like full sun on the crown. The appreciate a little shade from the midday sun!
