before we planted any veggies we got that soluble slug killer that u water into the garden. for the first few weeks it was fine. now our brassicas are under attacks but only in certain sections (weird)

we have this plastic green frog thing that u put slug pellets in, so we put that near the worst affected. after a week, nothing has changed.

so today i put 2 beer traps in (I hope they like John Smiths) :lollol: but I'm unsure of how well it's going to work.

it's defo slugs, btw because I weeded that garden today and found one tiny white on under the soil and a tiny white one falling off a plant. there's no signs of any caterpillars or anything else.

does anyone have any suggestions? :ntwrth:

Night time patrol and collection. Either cut in half with scissors (very organic) or drop into a strong salt solution. Personally, I hate even touching the little fiends.

    Organic slug pellets

Coffee grounds spread around the plants

Crushed eggshells again spread around the plants

H F-W on River Cottage advised covering the beer traps over to provide a dark, damp shady spot, such as slugs love.

ah, oooooo will have to pop a leaf over the beer traps then.

disposal is not a problem, I have chickens ;)

theres already eggshells on there, but not that many.

thanks for the suggestions, i will give them a go

if you have the space create a wildlife pond
this will help to attract many slug/snail predators as birds such thrushes and blackbirds and even more importantly will provide a good habitat to encourage frogs and maybe even newts both of which will munch away on the critters

if you dont have the space for a wildlife pond (no fish) then sussexgardeners suggestion of nightime patrol sounds like a good idea - be ready armed and dangerous with yer scissors

I used that nemaslug and I didn't have any problems but now my 6 weeks is up and they're coming back again. I also use the slug stoppa mats which work really well.
