I bought one last Saturday and put it by the river. It was a good size and a baby dropped off whilst I was planting it so have potted this up too.

We did have one many years ago in same position but lost it, we have been told to fold over the leaves in winter. Any advise as to its survival greatly welcome.

there was also a low growing creeping gunnera too - I was almost tempted.

I have a 6 year old one which has produced two seedlings.

It never grows over 3 feet high.

I have decided it is not manicata, but is in fact the little known variety of minicata.

Its supposed to be the same as yours..i still have the label!!its just their to the right of gladys..i think its gunnera mini..mini..I dont think its happy.. its not growing very big..i can hardly reach it unless i paddle through the pond as i have plants everywhere..i think i will lift her for the winter and keep her in a pot in the greenhouse..I also have some gunnera seeds growing and they have grown about a quarter of an inch in two months..i am not amused..especially when i see your lovely plants..i wont give up i will keep her alive and see what happens..

I believe its my own fault ..as when i bought her last august well i planted her by a fence where it was nice and warm over looking a small pool..well in january i took it in my head to move the pool to the veg plot as i am fed up of growing veg..so i dug the pool and moved gladys by the side of it..well as you know it was cold and i thought she was dead as she didnt appear till may..i dont think i should have moved her in the winter ...its my own fault if i am wrong i will be the first to admit it..the only hope i have is i shall put her in a pot in september and keep her in it as i am moving early 2008 so i dont want to keep disturbing her so she can live in a pot till then..no i wont give up she isnt dead...she has had some adventures on the day i bought her i was on my way to a chinese restaurant and i put her on the seat next to me and the waiter looked in the bag and asked if she was going to be eaten!! perish the thought..and she has been on a train..I might buy her a friend at some stage..

As long as they are fed and watered I have found they do really well in pots. I think gladys has great things ahead of her!!!
