I've got two minds on this one.

On one hand I definely believe that the Gurkhas have been loyal to Britain and deserve a better deal than they get.
They also have more right to be able to live in the UK than some of the very undesirable types we are letting in.

But, and its a big BUT, was that the reason they signed up for the British army in the first place, and was they promised that at the time?

I can only think that the reason for keeping the Gurkha regiment going has been that its a cheap way of keeping the British army up to numbers.
IN my opinion if they get the same benefits as the ordinary British soldier, then their days are numbered, unfortunately.

Well around where I work in Farnborough/Aldershot there are some excellent ex Gurkahs running restaurants, and also they have Johanna Lumley so two great reasons for me to sign, never mind the obvious that they have laid down their lives for us.

Hmm! We have a pro. army. These guys do this job because they want to. They aren't conscripts.
We don't decide where they should be deployed, the Government does(any Government).
My sympathies go out to all their families but the guys who are fighting know what they are doing and are well aware of the possible results. Anyone, from any country who joins the Armed Forces knows what they are letting themselves in for before they join.
Having said all that I have a sneaking regard for the Ghurkas and believe that they should have a better chance of being a regarded of members of this country than guys that come here and decide that their religion is more important than our laws. PG. Please don't agree with me, that would scare me:D
