I have had some very shocking & devastating news... I had a call from a friend of mine's Mother last night.... My friend is Canadian & works for the UN...... She arrived at the UN headquarters in Port au Prince Haiti last weekend...........!!!!
Her mother has been told she was in the building at the time of the collapse...!!!!! So far no news of her...... Times is slipping by very quickly & I am feeling beside myself now not knowing...!
I cannot imagine what it is like for Hatians around the world, waiting for news of loved ones family & friends & only able to sit & watch it unfold on the web & tv......
All I want to hear is my friend is safe....!! Please Lord.... That maybe she had left the building, but as time passes not hearing from her makes me think the worst... I feel useless & helpless sat here... What can I do..?? Nothing except be patient & hope & pray I suppose... Why do we all think... "It happens to somebody else"..??? Cos so often it actually doesn't..... It happens to us.... !!!
My prayers & thoughts go to all in Haiti, but just a tad more to my friend & I hope this isn't selfish...... Praying for you Marilyn.. x

I hope you don't mind me sharing this with you but feel so desperate at present..

Marley my heart goes out to you -words seem meaningless at times like this but I am thinking of you and hoping you hear some good news soon. I cannot begin to imagine what these poor people are going through at the moment.

It puts things into perspective doesn't it? We sit here and moan about trivialities while others are going through terrible tragedies like this earthquake. Thinking of you and your friend Marley.

    Hi Marley,

I have only just come inddors so had missed this post.

I am so sorry to hear of your sad news that your dear friend may have lost her life in this awful tragedy, but as you say the fact that her mother has heard no news from her does point to her being one of those poor souls that have lost their life.

What also saddened me when I saw the first news report of the earthquake was that the first people trying to catch the first flight out of the area was Christian Missionaries:cnfs::( I would have thought their main prority would have been straight away to go and offer help and comfort to the sick and dying not trying to get away from the country.I think their and my ideas of being a Christian to be somewhat totally different:skp:

Mine and Mr Kandys thoughts and prayers are with you at this most dreadful time and we hope you hear some good news at the end of all this:luv:

My thoughts are with you. I can't even begin to imagine how worried you must be.

Just one thought to hang onto. There infrastructure has been devastated, so it is possible that communications are near impossible. A friend of a friend was in Thailand when the boxing day tsunami struck. Everyone was worried sick, but the chap was ok. He was just unable to tell anybody so because what few channels of communication they still had were simply overwhelmed.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I just feel numb now... It is all so chaotic out there & seeing no real help in allot of places out there on the TV doesn't make one feel to confident.. But I did speak to her brother this afternoon.. He has spent hrs on the phone & trying to get through to various UN people in different places & see if he find out anything more than they have already told him.. He has been told that there are allot of their people missing & they are doing everything they can to try & find them all.. Obviously relations will be informed & he now has help from other UN personel in Canada.
They have told him the biggest problem no real tools or lifting gear to search out there yet but hopefully they soon will...
We have to try & take comfort that she was in a place she wanted to be & helping the poor out there which has always been her priority in life... None of us can predict disasters like this..
It is very upsetting but we must keep a beacon of hope always... She has been to Haiti several times now & loved it there & had friends out there.... She was to work in a different area & it is possible she had left headquarters just before but nobody can confirm this either.. So now all we can do is wait....... It seems so strange in this time & world of instant communication to all of a sudden have none at all....

Her brother & mother (who is in her late 80s) are being calm, strong & positive, but a tinge of sadness as they also know the awful truth they may have to face but also very shocked & sad for everyone in Haiti at present is about the only way I can describe them....
I just have to stop my mind wandering & thinking what it may have happened to her.... If she is dead I just hope it was quick & she didn't have time to feel much..
Then like her brother said... She could just as easily be alive somewhere out there amongst the chaos & devastation & helping the injured, she would not be thinking of herself now we all know that.. Of course though underneath we all feel she would have got word to someone by now with all the press etc around..
So will just have to wait now & hope & pray for some good news..

Oh Marley,so sorry for you, lets hope and pray she is ok.

I am hearing there may be 200,000 dead out there..........It beggars belief if it's true.
It kind of put things in perspective when we moan 'cos we can't get on the garden etc............................................................

It is heart breaking & very difficult to watch it on the TV rosa as I sit here in utter amazement that the Americans are not in there with equipment yet.. Seems they are having problems getting it from the airport... !
Now we see from the news, it seems gangs are getting violent & looting is rife... I know we should expect the looting.. As that seems to be standard these days.. But the violence that goes with it is frightening as we are seeing..... Those poor people just all on the streets.. After shocks still coming too..

Marley, I find it very difficult to watch it on the news but there are some miracles happening. The little child reunited with its mother was just amazing. I wish we could do more to help, I'm sure there will be appeals for clothes etc so we can give.
