Hair dressing scissors

My wife is crazy enough to not only let me cut her hair, but she actually asks me to do it. To be fair, despite never having had any kind of training, everyone thinks I do a good job, and when people compliment her on her new hair do and ask where she got it done, they are always shocked when wife tells them it was me.

The thing is, I have always made sure I have good scissors. They are always reserved exclusively for cutting hair, and I always relegate them to general use at the first hint they're going blunt, at which point I replace them.

This time however, my good scissors snapped, and I didn't get round to replacing them. So wife ordered some off Amazon while I was out. She bought cheapo ones.

She insisted I do her hair, so I did a test cut underneath the outer strands, and immediately reported they are terrible. She insisted I do it anyway. So I did my best.

To be fair, it's the start of the school holidays so there's plenty of time for it to grow before she next sees the other school mums, and I'm the only bread winner in our household so she kind of needs to not murder me in my sleep, so I should be ok in the long run.

 

I were asking my barber about hairdressing scissors I heard they are expensive , Can't remember if she said £2000 or £3000 her first pair were until they got ruined my a customer kids . Think I'll go and get the mop chopped tomorrow if its raining.

 

Good gods. There's me thinking I'm splashing out when I pay about 30 quid. I knew I was getting what I'd call budget decent, and that professional hair dressers pay a lot more, but I didn't realise they could cost thousands.

 

I could have probably done a better job with my secateurs. The scissors she bought were so blunt. I felt like I was hacking at her hair rather than cutting it. Still, since she's washed it it doesn't look so bad. I might have to straight a few wobbly bits today, which I'll probably do with my electric clippers that I use to shave my head because I think any further use of her blunt scissors will just make it worse.

 

When I was young I d always ask for it to be thinned out on top .
And they would go in there with those scissors than kind of hacked out just some of the under growth.
Don't see them anymore ,or is it just me.
The old aggressive clippers down the back of the neck was good as well, now they just seem to mess around.

Often had the odd skin tag taken off the neck with a razor.

 

Sort of like pinking shears.

 

Well I've been for a mop chop today , I asked again how much her first scissors were said around £1700 and that were for a cheap they can go into thousands her words not mine.

I still get the hair thinning scissors used on my hair for now @pete , your hair might not be as thick as it used to be

For that kind of money, I'd want to know that an elderly Japanese master swordsmith had worked day and night, meticulously hand crafting them in a secret workshop in the mountains.

 

These are beautiful to use, you can tell they have quality without being top end expensive.

Speaking for myself I always bought mainstream stuff rather than the really expensive stuff which was not any better at doing the job but some people seemed to think would and should work better.
