My brother in law reckoned he saw it here in Northamptonshire but a few years later I read an article and it was stated that at the time it was only seen by people in the Southern Hemisphere not the Northern Hemisphere but not sure if that is correct as I am not an expert on these things.:th scifD36:

Halley's comet was mid eighties I was a 7-8 back then I remember it very well it was a big thing in schools I think. I remember at the time we won't see Halleys for another 80 something years.

Mars was indeed late nineties and must be what you're thinking of.

I remember what I was doing for the total eclipse 11/08/99 I was asleep in a field in cornwall when I woke up my friends said I missed it and tried waking me but couldn't lol.

I remember it going dark then I remember it getting light ha ha ha.

Watched the eclipse from Eggardon Hill, quite something as you can see right across to Portland from there (Think the tip of Portland was in Totality)

All the birds and the sheep went silent as it got dark. Willow was nearly 3 and was nestled up with me, remember her saying "I'm scared"

She can still remember it :)
