would you beleive it. I had completed 2 srips of mowing when the mower just packed in. I changed the fuse, the extension lead, the socket i was using and still wouldnt work. Hubby took it apart and found that part of the plastic handle had snapped and so it wasnt making contact with the other bit that needed to make it work. I contacted black and decker and a few other places for a new plastic handle only to be told they dont sell them seperately i will have to buy the whole component at about £60!!! I dont think the mower is worth that much! My husband has cobbled it for now and as i work with h and s s=dont think I will tell them what he's done!! Its stupid that you cant get simple bits. Well that's my ranting over with and I feel so much better. I am getting a card for some place which sells all kinds of stuff for trade only kind of thing so going to llok out for a cheap one.

I think a nice full metal petrol would do the trick thats what i have had for years its over 30 years old because i remember my dad using it as a litle kid so it would make its money back eventually but they don't build them like they use to lol

Hi lazy-gardener, the same thing happened to us and we took a trip to our local re-cycling centre, armed with a few tools, and managed to get a complete handle for 50p. May be worth a try.

Or do it the sneaky way, go to Homebase, buy one of their flimsy B&D/Bosch/Powercrud lines (or whatever) and take out their three year extended guarantee that costs about twelve quid or so. At least you will get another machine if it snaps/twists/bits fall off/etc. I don't agree with the throwaway style but it is a fact of life.

Re Sparrow, I personally like the plastic bodied Honda mowers as they don't rust away, and the engines last for yonks with just an annual oil change. Can't beat an old metal cylinder mower though....now where did I put that oil can?
