St Patricks Day instantly reminds me of the drunk who smashed my betting office window in Waterford, and the hours I had to spend in court subsequently.

I have a happy memory of St. Patricks day.

One particular year, I bought a car from an Irishman on this day. I got it at rock bottom price. He told me that he wanted the money to celebrate...:snork:

                  :)
Being married to an Irishman the foregoing doesn't surprise me in the slightest!

I remember while being over in Ireland many moons ago we were touring about and stopped in a place called Cashel. It was quite early in the morning (about 8.30 am) and were looking for somewhere to get a cup of tea/coffee. We spied a shop which had all sorts in it plus some tables and chairs so thought maybe they sold what we were looking for. We went in and the man behind the counter asked what we wanted. Upon asking for a cup of tea he replied "oh it's far too early to have the café part of the shop open but you'll have a drink while you're waiting" and produced a bottle of Bushmills from under the counter. Not wishing to seem ungrateful we, somewhat reluctantly, altho husband didn't put up much resistance come to think of it, took him up on his offer. I really don't remember much more about that day other than we had an unscheduled overnight stop in some god forsaken hotel in Cashel and I had lightly poached Alka-Seltzers for breakfast the following morning:yikes:.

The Rock of Cashel is the one place in Ireland I'd like to see.
