Just heard an item on GQT about the Harlequin Ladybird and the survey being undertaken.

Gardeners are invited / requested to take part and record any sightings.

 Yay alex I think this is an excellent survey to add to GC.. It is very important that we find out about them before our own species are wiped out..
I for one will certainly be doing it & I will also put a sticky on it Alex.. :dbgrtmb:

I've just submitted one, took a bit of guesswork to get the species correct however:

I've still not seen a ladybird of any type this year.
I'm assuming last summer wiped them all out.

I'd not seen any at all since last week and now seen quite a few, unlike in previous years.

Only on my Fennel bush mind you.

I have seen just 1 in my garden this year and that was yesterday on the Cosmos. The SWMBO claims to have seen 1 in the house a few weeks ago. Too few Ladybirds this year, the soapy spray has been on overtime !

Ya'll call them Ladybirds......the thread is Harlequin Ladybirds........I was expecting to open this thread and find pictures of exotically colored harlequin birds. :loll:We call them Ladybugs. I have Ladybugs in my garden and leave aphids alone when they strike so the Ladybugs will have something to eat. They show up, start munching out on aphids, procreate, and pretty soon there are Ladybug larvae running around eating aphids too! I love my Ladybugs!

Ladybirds or Ladybugs @Baymule, obviously we have different names for not only animals but birds and plants too. :) What I'd like to know is, are all these bugs ladies?
