I've seen polianthes tuberosa advertised in the T&M plant catalogue and they make it sound good: "intensely fragrant blooms... at almost any time of the year". Their website says it flowers from July to Sept, not quite the same, but it has an AGM and sounds nice. I can't seem to find much more about it - does anyone know of any pros and cons please?

Yes, I've grown them a few times.

They are very fragrant mostly in the evening and night, especially on warm summer evenings.

Fairly easy to grow from good hard corms, very little water is needed until growth gets going well, as they can rot.
Also I would not pot up until April, a good sunny position in heat is required as the plants can grow very tall otherwise.

A good plant for a conservatory or greenhouse, but will need a very sunny window sill if indoors.

The corms are discarded after growth usually.

    Thanks Pete!
Not for growing outdoors then? T&M said it's an HP

:gnthb: They are fantastic for their scent Sezzle, but over here unless we have an exceptionally hot summer to get the flowers & scent I found they needed a really really warm & very sunny position... Don't have too many in one place though as the evening scent can get almost overpowering :D My cousin who lives in California grows them but even she starts them in her garden room onlt putting them on the deck when flowering...:D :thmb: Have fun as the scent is fabulous, peole will wonder wehat you are growing......:hehe:

T&M say a lot of things, quite a bit of it is misleading, but it does sell plants and seed, which is what they do.

I'm still waiting for the ripe juicy bananas promised by the seed packet of Musa Ensete that I bought in 1977:lollol:
