I've eaten a few from my plant, and just picked another 6 from it ...... Not many more left now though :( As it is only approx 6' tall.

I have gained a cutting from the Fig plant though this year [IMG]

Have have a small one in a pot south facing & sheltered by the house. only two years old but has figs about 30mm across. I live in hope they will ripen later. [Yorkshire] I recall holidaying in France on a Farm which had a huge fig tree and they were "ripe" absolutley delicious! You can eat toooo many though!

I have a very large fig tree as well- plenty of brown and green ones alike. I don't know how to tell if they're ripe though, or even how to use them!

Any one care to fill me in on this lovely secret? [IMG] Or barring that- anyone want a load of figs?

I tend to take it that they are ripe when the colour changes to brownish, the fruit is soft and comes away from the plant easily, sometimes the skin will have tears in it aswell.

I went to our village post office this morning and the postmistress gave me a tour of her tiny courtyard garden where she had a fig tree growing in a huge pot. It had hundreds of figs growing on it, some of them very nearly ripe. I was very impressed!
She told me that I could have a cutting if I could find out how to take one.
Anyone know how to take a cutting from a fig tree?
