Only a couple Kat. Softwood cuttings taken at this time of year and put in water with rooting hormone in it. Not 100% reliable though. I understand that grafting onto a hardy rootstock is far more successful.

Hi Kath I have progaated some Montana cuttings before after it has flowered from a none flowering shoot.

I just took a new shoot and pulled the bottom leaves off it, dipped it in rooting powder and away it went.

It's very easy to do although Montana is a monster of a plant and very easy to grow...not tried it on other clematis yet but might do later on.Hel.xxx.

Seemed a shame when I notice this healthy shoot had fallen down ,last night I did that but maybe should have trimmed stalk a good bit shorter ,can alwas go and do it again.

I must post photos of my hanging baskets of clematis lst year it really worked well got them last yr from T&M Silver Moon and Sunset Red.

Scotkat, the easiest way is to layer a stem. That is to say you take a stem, close to the ground, and peg it down. It will root from the leaf nodes so you must make sure these are in contact with the soil.

Now that's a wonderful idea Kath posting more pictures as well as using clematis in a hanging basket...I never thought of doing that but I can imagine how smashing your baskets looked.I'll await your pictures! Hel.xxx.

David the clematis in ? I was speaking about that wanted to use as a cutting is in planted in hanging baskets so only thing could think of was to peg it down in the hanging basket and not the groud.

Should think that should work ok.

And Helen shall post photos of clematis in H/baskets at night when I have more time.

Just geting ready to go out.

Looking as if we may get another nice day.

    Enjoy your day Helen.
