Has anyone tried the water jet cat repellant thing?

I posted a thread a little while ago asking about ways to stop cats pooping all over my garden (which is freshly dug). After speading time researching this problem, i have decided to get some tarpaulin for now to cover the ground. (We dont live there at the moment as we're working on the house and we won't be living there when we sow the seed for the lawn)

However, I need to sow seed to create my lawn and i'm wondering the best way to stop the buggers crapping everywhere? Would covering the ground with netting work? only thing i worry about is if one jumps down off the fence and gets caught in my netting and then gets completely stuck? So i wondered if anone has got one of those detectors that shoots a jet of water when triggered? Are they any good? Do they work?

Plus, i bought a few of those coleus '**** off' plants today so i can dot them around the perimeter of my garden.

I'm thinking that a one single thing to keep them out will not work and i have to at it full throttle to keep the cats out. So hopefully, with the coleus plants, borrowing a dog, chasing them off, netting and possibly a water jet thingy will all work together to stop them?

    Thanks

The birds will eb keep to use a lawn seed bed as a dust bath too.

Prickly branches can be good, just spread haphazardly over the seed bed. The pricklier the better, obviously ... easy to remove when no longer needed, but depends on having some suitable hedgerows nearby ...
