    Maps on Live.com ??

enter your postcode, and find your home, and you get an elevated view of your home (if you are within the coverage area), I have seen mine from North, East, South and West aspects  and a zoom facility (hope none of you were sunbathing nude ;) )

Forgot to say ...... You have to switch to 'Birds eye view' (it looks like a picture of 3 buildings, under the picture of a folded map ) ;)

I think these are great. Of course, when I clicked on I got a map of Portugal! T'other half has all of our past houses, USA and the UK, as well as our ones here pinpointed, and my sister's in Germany, and we can just hop from house to house. It's fantastic, especially as you say looking from different angles. Think he's using Google Earth.

My current location doesn't have that option, Nathan, but I enjoyed playing with this, looking at my last house, and seeing my car outside... and neighbour's enormous white van parked in its usual place - in front of someone else's house, blocking out their light...

Was surprised that the Liverpool area wasn't available either on bird's eye view. Must be working up from the south....

Seems much the same as Google maps except it's more up to date. My garden has the lawn stripped back and the pond in situ so it can only be about 18 months old. Google maps are about 5 years old!

The problem with Google Earth is that it is only from straight above, as the pictures are taken from satellites, the pictures on Live are about 4-5 months old, where as Google Earth have a picture above my house that is 3 1/2 years + old .

It is almost as if Windows (I think it's them), have invested in a light aircraft or similar to take the pictures.

Possibly, as more area is covered ( ie Liverpool, as said above) Live could end up being 3 1/2 years out of date !!

For me looking locally, it is nice to see things at an elevation, but Google earth is also good in a different way.

I will also say this, Google Earth also doesn't cover a lot of area in close up, it is mainly towns and built up areas.

    Liz,

Have you updated Windows to Internet Explorer 7 ?

I only updated a couple of weeks ago, and that is how I found it [IMG]

Just go to www.microsoft.com and do a 'search for updates' .

There is also a handy 'Phishing' filter for extra security which is downloaded as well into the update.

Well - each to their own. Google Earth does it for me and gets in much, much closer. You can pan around buildings and get side elevations too.

:D I have to confess to always using Google Earth or multi-map.... Find I get very hacked off with allot of MSN stuff after a while, I'm afraid... As HB says... Each to their own & of course, what works best for you personally... [IMG] [IMG]

Useful Nathan - couldn't see more than I would see on Google Earth, though this is more recent - perhaps I didn't understand the tools. however by grabbing the map and dragging, could see the whole area in more detail - put my processor into overdrive :D .
