I am so new to gardening, but was delighted when I saw I was getting 6-7 potatoes from my early crop.

BUT.... I have just come back from a few days at my daughters to find that my Edward Potatoes, which had grown hugely, some of the largest stalks had doubled over with the rain and were parallel with the ground.

Don't know if I did the right thing, but I chopped the top stems off the damaged plants near a side shoot. Will my crop survive? I had 'earthed up' to a height of about 7" from ground level but nothing seemed to stop them growing larger and larger.
Just want to know what to expect.

    Many thanks.

You wont kill them but its not something thats nessesary.
Most potatoes get tall and fall over, its normal.

Leave them alone, they are maincrop so wont be ready until sept as you probably know.
