Earlier this year I planted some clemetis plants to grow up the fence.

The plants are very close to the lawn and unfortunately yesterday as I was mowing I hit one of the plants and have completely snapped the stem at ground level.

I appreciate the foliage that has grown will die but have I killed the plant?

Is the something I can do to help it recover?

(Sorry I didn't keep a record of what type of clemetis I planted)

It will probably regrow but don't expect much from it in the way of flowers this year. has it flowered yet? If it is spring flowerer it may not matter too much anyway. I don't think you will have killed it, just given it a setback.

Ooh that is a tricky one Dazer.. :hate-shocked: It depends whether it had made a good root system since you planted it and of course which type.. They don't usually like to be cut right back, but not really a Clem' grower... I think I would make sure it doesn't dry out and cross my fingers..

Seriously there are a few Clematis lovers on here so I am sure someone will be able to be more positive than me.. ;)

It should grow back in a few weeks. I often cut Clematis back to ground level , if they are not performing or looking sickly . They regrow 9 times out of 10 .

you said early this year you planted it. So it is not even in for one year. Hum. Your just going to have to wait and see. Put a little fence thing, or sticks around it.

It depends what type it is.

Last year, while planting a palm in the border, I chopped off most of the stem of my armandii.
        It never grew back
        (I have since replaced it).
