Hi all. Early this season I planted the climbing rose ICEBERG on my front house wall, which gets good sun until middle afternoon through summer.
It has shot up in the last few months, going from two and a half foot to about 9', so it obviously is happy. However, I have been dissapointed with the actual Rose display...they seem to have ended in July. I can't help noticing that there are roses still showing well now, well into November.
    so a few questions really...
1/ Have I given this Iceberg a proper chance and will it show more roses for longer next season?
2/ If not...can I dig up this Rose and put it elsewhere and plant another climber in its place..or will that suffer from rose sickness?
3/If I could risk planting a new one...any suggestions for a pretty climber...12-14'..which repeats its flowering late in the season?
The Iceberg is white...but colour is not important.
    Many regards
    SG.

This is the info on climbing Iceberg from the net
    http://www.gardenvines.com/catalog/climbing-iceberg-rose-p-211.html

    That might help.

I wouldn't want to risk planting a different one in the same spot, unless you do a complete soil change.

If you do that, I've come across 2 really nice climbers, recommended by another GC poster, Golden Showers
    http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/roses/climbingroses/goldenshowers.htm
    and Guinee

I think they'd suit your position.

    Hi SG
1.You have got to give it a chance ,be patient, its a beautiful rose.
Any new Rose needs at least 2 years to settle down.
2.Yes you can dig it up now,and i cannot see any reason why you cannot plant another rose in its place.Rose sickness only usually occurs when you move a Rose that has been in the same place for
10 years, and then replant a new rose. There is a way round this (remove the soil 20-24 inches depth)put it on the compost heap .Replace it with
soil from another part of the garden.
3.(Compassion )will flower for ever(pink)scent is 10 out of 10.

Thank you very much. Seems I may have been slightly impatient(as usual!). I will let it grow for a couple of seasons and re-assess.
Thanks for the suggested roses also.
    Most useful site.
    Regards,
    SG

Yes be patient. I got Iceberg, and so has my neighbour. It will need a couple of seasons to get going, and will continue to get better each year.

As I recall, this is Iceberg in Sissinghursts White Garden, though I could be wrong.
