Have I planted weeds?

    Hi All

    Hmm they were supposed to be wallflowers but me thinks they didn't germinate and a weed did instead... What thinks thee?

    I have a few of these that I have cut down, I thought of them as a weed to. I would be interested in finding out.

      I like the willowherbs. They get an unfair reputation. They're easy to spot as you walk round the garden, very easy to uproot (they are only shallow rooted), and they are annuals I believe, so it doesn't matter if you don't get all the roots out.

      They do produce a gazillion seeds if you let them, but if they're in the neighbourhood, they're coming back, no matter what you do. I just pull them out when I see them in my garden, but to be honest I don't worry even a tiny bit if I miss some, because so far they've never posed a problem.

        It looks like it could be Epilobium obscurum– dwarf willowherb/short-fruited willowherb to me.

        Rosebay Willowherb looks like this (NB 'young shoot'):

        Definate weed.
        I pull them out as soon as I see them.
