While I was at the Tatton Park flower show last week I saw "The Lawn Expert" book by Dr D G Hessayon for sale (for £8 I think). I would have bought it, had it not been for the fact that I had already got a copy from my father. The differences? My copy was published in 1972 (It's older than me!). It sold for 20p. And it has references on how you should kill worms and moles. :(
I still think the basic advice is the same though.

    Hello Ham,

I for one hope not-almost all my gardening knowledge comes out old books. I have a big collection of ABC gardening, and assorted other reference books printed in the forties, with two much earlier than that. What makes me laugh is that the illustrations show a man giving it some welly in a jacket and tie.

I think it has probably become easier with all the new sprays and electric gadgets etc, but the good old fashioned principles remain the same.

    And welcome

Do you mean that some young fellers today don't wear a decent three piece suit with a stiff collar and tie to do their gardening in???

That's too shameful to even think about...
