    Hello everyone
I recently put down a covering of top soil over existing soil and now want to heal it in as i believe this is the best way to level the ground and give to correct firmness needed
The problem for me is the damp weather we are having which has prevented me from being able to get the healing in part of the job done
I went to make a start today as it looked quite dry but when i dug down a little bit the soil is quite damp under the surface
Would it be advisable to leave it until we get a few dry warm days that will dry the soil out to a greater depth?
I am worried that healing in while the soil is damp will make the soil too compressed or have some other negative impact

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Stuart62. :)

As long as the soil isn't very wet there is no reason why you shouldn't heel the soil in. I assume you mean to walk over the surface on your heels, this would compact the soil more than if you used the complete soles of your feet in a shuffling kind of motion across the area. After that it would be best to rake the soil just to loosen the surface and level out or fill in any lumps or dips. Tread those patches down and rake again and the surface of the soil should be ready for turf or seed.
