I need to buy an electric heater for my 6 x 8 greenhouse and quick as it's starting to get cold at night now. Would a 2kw one be enough to keep it frost free or would I need to go for the 3 kw?
I've found a 2 kw one on offer for £10 so would be great if I could get that one!

Hi Mel, I would think that a 2 kw one should be ample for a 6ft x 8ft greenhouse. Just being nosy, but, may I ask, what are you overwintering that requires heat now? David.

10 quid for a greenhouse heater seems awful cheap to me Mel.
Not trying to put you off, but I asume its stated that its suitable for greenhouse use, you cant be too careful. [IMG]
    Has it got a thermostat?
Without a reliable one, it could either cost you a mint to run, or allow your plants to freeze.

    I know it sounds cheap. it's a Parasene 2kw frostshield. RRP £33.99 and it's only £10.20 with £3.95 postage. Here's the link
    http://www.dobbies.co.uk/acatalog/parasene-2kw-frostshield-597.html

I've just ordered one and think I've got myself a real bargain!!

As for what I need it for David, I've got quite a few tender musa(banana) plants and don't want to get caught out if there's a sudden frost!

I use that one in a 8 X 12 greenhouse for frost protection and its worked great for the last few years.

Mines a parasene super 4 and thats for a 6x6 greenhouse, £20 B&Q, it's just enough to keep the temp above about 5c on a realy cold night. As for musas i'd leave them out side and wrap them even if you loose the stem they will throw up new shoots in the spring.

We have been looking for a heater also.

In the past I have never had heat before but this year would like to have heat for Jan -Feb.

    Not for now.

But we thought we could have a propane gas heater and we could use our BQ tank

I haven't got my greenhouse yet but I couldn't resist this bargain a Parasene Superwarm 10 from B&Q's sale a couple of weeks ago for £19.45!

I'm pretty sure it was a good deal as it was selling in another store for twice that price and also it will be ideal for my 6x10 greenhouse that we have decided to get.

Now all I have to do is wait for my greenhouse maybe in January!

Hi guys,I think you misunderstood me.What i wanted to know was, would a heater of this size be capable of maintaining a temperature high enough to raise seed?(bearing in mind that the partition would probably be around 4ftx8ft).Cheers....freddy.

Freddy you would be better off using a heat mat or heating cable under the bench construct a frame over it insulate the sides ,if your budget stretches to it put some grow lights in it, this way you are not heating a space unecessarily it will be cheaper in the long run.

Hi walnut, thanks for the reply.Seems like the way to go.In a way, money is no object,I see it as an investment for the future.Funny thing,I still have this heating cable that has never been used, all i need is a thermostat.Dont know why I didn`t think of that! Thanks again....freddy.
