Does anyone know why my hebe didn't grow at all last year? It was in in quite a waterlogged clay bed. But during last summer it didn't even grow much. At the weekend i've pulled it out the pond, and put it in a terracotta pot to help with the pond life.

They both went in during last summer, and was only a foot and a bit high.

Hi Newbie I didn't know hebe's were that keen in water logged soil, mine are doing fine and I planted quite a few last year. I have also clay type soil but I did add quite a lot of compost to the soil to improve it.

I'm sure someone will come along who has far better knowledge than me. :D Hel.xxx.

Newbie, Hebes tend to prefer free draining soil rather than waterlogged conditions.

Yeah, my garden is still undergoing its waterlog combatting phase. In fact i didn't realise it was going to still waterlog there after i'd done so much work on it last spring, and all the extra rain lately has not helped.

But thing is it wasn't waterlogged during last summmer until autumn time, and it didn't grow through the summer. Any more ideas?

I can get a picture of it. I'll try and rescue it if it can, its looking pretty sorry for itself tbh.

I planted three last year in different areas of the garden (three for two I think at B & Q) Not sure which one it is but it has variagated leaves and purple flowers in autumn, non of them have grown much and they look sickly, I am going to dig them out and put them in containers
