Helebores

    Think I shall clean out some of my containers and put helebores in them.

    Does anyone else grow helebores in containers ?

    Hi Scotkat,I don't personally grow mine in containers apart from when they are in flower pots ready to go out in the garden.It wouldn't hurt to try them in containers as long as you give them a generous amount of leafmould mixed with the compost you normally use for containers.Make sure you give them plenty of water in hot weather,though they will prefere to be placed somewhere that doesn't get too hot...

    Thsi will only be tempotalrily while my front garden gets landscaped KF.

    I think I have got loads of seedling s have not seen this before,will they grow into young plants.

    Yes,they will grow into young plants if you can gently lift the seedlings and pot them up into very small pots,less than 3inch ones depending on how big the root system is.The bigger the root system the bigger the pot.Grow them on under cover or in a cold frame and then repot as they get bigger,before planting them out where you want them to go...

    What do you do with them,when they die back..I had a wonderful display this year....

    sorry I must add it is not in container..it is in the ground....

    Hellebores are evergreen. You leave them alone now until Feb/March when you cut off the old foliage so that you can see the flowers.
