Would now be a good time to move Hellebores ?
If not, when would be the best time to move them ?

I've moved many of mine when I need to do so and feel in the mood, in fact I've just dug one today. They don't seem to mind. Now is probably as good a time as any, they've mostly finished flowering, the soil is damp or should be and is warming up.

Optimum time is when the soil begins to cool down, ie September onwards. That is when they make their roots. Moving them at any other time means digging them up without disturbing the root ball.

I agree with Palustris that around the middle of September is optimum especially if you are not only moving but splitting the clump. Post splitting I need to keep the portions in an unheated greenhouse over winter. If I replant outside straight away the split portions do not fare well. They might fare better with kinder winter weather than we have in Scotland, however.

Thank you all ... I was hoping now would be a good time because the flower bed needs sorting out. Maybe I'll take a chance.

Hi @Michael Hewett I split one a few weeks ago, with flowers on, to give some away. It's looking ok in the pot I've got left!
