Just an introduction and a hello. :-)

I have a yard with concrete for soil and with light obscured by 4 walls the lowest of about 2m. At noon in mid-summer a patch of concrete by the gate gets direct sunlight and the lowest wall gets sun at dusk.

So this year I had a go, I had potatoes in buckets (we got a meal from the output of each bush) I've Lobelia, Violas and a few cornflowers in hanging baskets and a few pots (these all flowered). I tried California poppies that I've learnt to grow.

I suppose like everyone else, it gave me an interest and something to do during spare moments (there's always something to tinker with with plants) and that pride? contentment? you get from producing something.

I tried some tomatoes in those growbags designed specifically for them. It is these that have propelled me into seeking advice on here. I don't seek advice on this thread, I'm reading the "my tomatoes haven't ripened" threads so may post a query there.

I'm just giving a bit of background and saying "Hi" to all you learned or beginner types out there.

    Cheers

Hi Green Knees, and welcome to Gardeners Corner and congratulations of becoming a member of the GC Gang. We have a fair number very experienced members who know their Tom's from their Bananas and I'm sure people like @JWK, @Scrungee, @Trunky, @Steve R will be able to help you and give you good advise.

          Hi,

Reading your first post made us think of what a great space for a Fernery with some running water and similar plants like Hostas and quiet a few flowering plants which enjoy shade.:)

Thank you for the welcomes and kind replies. Now I've discovered gardens/plants, it will probably be a life-long activity. :blue thumb:

That's guaranteed Green Knees. :) Gardening for many of us is an addiction we can't give up. There's always something new to learn or a plant added to our wish list.
