    hi

I just accquired a laptop (and finally joined the computer generation)

I live in the border city of carlisle and have a small forecourt garden and larger but still small scale back garden

i am not really a good gardener, my idea of 'pruning' buddleia, roses, laurel, hebe, cotoneaster etc is to chop off with either a hacksaw or hedge clippers to almost where the old woody bits start, i have'nt managed to kill anything yet

the back garden is south facing and has quite a steep slope from top to bottom with stone steps dropping approx 20ft to the bottom

at the top i have a level patio with a collection of tubs then the slope goes down hill to another patio more tubs and garden shed

the slope next to the steps is crammed full of plants and really is a mish mash
when i moved here 7 years ago it was just a soil slope full of weeds
there was 2 huge sycamore trees in the garden one of which i got taken down the year i moved in and the second one was dismantled last month

i am a bit of a bulb freak and on the slope i have planted massess of daffodils, tulips, bluebells, crocus, grape hyacinth which bring welcome colour in spring.

i also have a range of perreniels like cornflower, yellow loosestrife, oriental poppy, peony, hosta and quite a few others that i would need to look up as i am not 100% certain of their names

shrubs and conifers are also planted along with bronze and green cordyline

at the base of the slope i have several small ponds which are inhabited by some very tame frogs

gosh i have rattled on a bit - i will go and a have a look around the site
    see you later
