    Hiya,

I have a rather large ornate garden and thought i had better join a forum to help me out as it's all a bit over whelming.

Love gardening but have to concede this one is a tad on the large side for me. I am mum of two little girls who also have a love for the garden and the outdoors. Constantly wanting to plant stuff but not interested in the mammoth task that is weeding.

    Anyway....Hello all

" not interested in the mammoth task that is weeding."

One year's seed = Seven years weed - as the saying goes. Don't let any weeds go to seed in your garden - won't stop the seed blowing over the fence, but it will make things worse if weeds are allowed to seed. Trouble is: you have to be vigilant on that policy for 7 years before you have it cracked :hehe:

Cardboard is good to keep the weeds down. We put that around shrubs and things in the spring and cover with manure (which we would put there for top-dressing anyway). The cardboard lasts at least a year and stops most things poking through.

Hello & welcome to GC. As Kristen says cardboard is an easy way to smother weeds and cover it with bark or manure if you want it to look attractive. Good luck.

"cover it with ... manure if you want it to look attractive"

Best you only say that to another gardener :) and best not to Mrs JWK even if she is a gardener!
