    Hello Everyone

I have just retired early after 20,000 hours of professional flying and start a one year horticultural course this week. I have been gardening all my life, although only really seriously during the last 10 years. My father had a garden machinery and landscaping business so I was introduced to gardening at a very early age.

One thing I realised along time ago is that gardening and horticulture are not as easy as may first appear, I certainly have a lot to learn, hence the course and hence I have joined this forum!

I have a particular interest in English native hedging, having planted several hedges around 10 years ago. I am also a great Dahlia, Begonia, Oxalis and Chrysanthemum fan, Oh and Fuchsias but after falling asleep at the local Fuchsia society meeting I am too embarrassed to go back, well Bonsai Fuchsias, I ask you!

I also love Ferns too, especially English native ferns but my knowledge is poor.

    I will stop there!

    Hello and welcome Captian Jon.

I have a course that I'm supposed to start on (self study) but seem to find all sorts of reasons as to why I can't start it to-day.

You will one day--driving 250 miles a day back and forwards to Heathrow inspired me--spent 7 hours one day in the car, there and back!

Hi Jon... spoken to you elsewhere but just want to welcome you to GC. :thumb:

My Dad was a pilot (was into aerial surveying before I was born) .... before WW2 and was a WW2 Ace and had a commercial license ..... I've flown a twin-engined Cessna and a Piper Cherokee (way back in the 60s) and I worked in the airline business in the late 90s ... love planes but have no plans to fly again ...
