    Hi Forum,

Just wanted to do the polite thing and introduce myself as I suspect there will be LOTS of posts over the next few weeks.

We moved into our house last autumn and there is a fairly well established garden but it has unfortunately not been tended to over the last 24 months or so.

Over the Easter Weekend we started to fix that.

Our garden is pretty much square - for the sake of this we will label the sides 1, 2, 3 and 4:

1 - is the furthest away from the house
    4 - is the nearest
2 - is the side to the right of the house as you look into the garden
3 - is the left side as you look into the garden.

Sides 1 and 2 have well established beds, with a variety of flowers and trees, about 1m deep on both sides, backing onto the fencing

4 is backed onto the paving stones that connect to the house
3 is backed onto a large paved area

The junction of 3 and 4 has a largish bedding patch as well. The remainder is badly maintained grass.

    So far we have:

    - cut and strimmed the grass
    - scarified the lawn (big job!)
    - dug out all the weeds in the bedding section, removed dead plants, and moved the tree type plants to be more evenly laid out
    - introduced some lillies (quite well established ones), and some other bedding flowers to this bed
    - laid down permeable mesh
    - added a layer of wood chipping mulch

Next stages of the plan are:

    - 4 in 1 on the lawn when it has recovered from the scarifying in a few days
    - then full raking and reseeding
    - monitor the worked on bedding, and possibly plant some more items there - one large bush type plant is needed in the middle still to be determined
    - add lawn edging to all bedding to keep it all tidy
    - weed out the big corner between sides 1 and 3, get rid of all the dead plants, possibly remove the trees too, fully treat the soil, and plant lots of things there for a colourful corner - we are thinking rose bushes etc

The remaining tasks will have to wait - as we move along side 1 towards the left hand side, we get less and less direct sunshine and most of side 2 while not in shade, does not get any direct sunlight throughout the day.

Anyway - wanted to say hi as one of the tasks is identifying what we have in the garden already and what we might want to keep.

I look forward to all your help!

    Thanks!

      Hi and welcome.

We too, used to live in Cheshire. We didn't move, the border did!
      Now we're in Trafford.
