Thank you for adding me. My garden is kind of long, with the house in the middle, dividing it into almost two. I'm planning one area of lawn for when toddler is bit older, and other end to be 'working end' It has greenhouse, chickens, washing line, and want to add raised beds at some point.
So far we've taken out 5 larch trees (which were overhanging the house), dug out their roots, put in some drains and levelled the ground. Now trying to find a cheapish gardener who'll spray off the weeds/lawn, spread top soil, sow lawn, and then build child proof fence, as I don't seem to have time!

Phew! Sorry, quite a long post, but at least there's the outline. I know enough about gardening to get by, but am no expert, so am looking forward to reading these pages (and asking questions!)

Welcome. I am not sure exactly where you live but I live between Cupar and Newburgh which maybe close by.
I know an extremely knowledgeable professional gardener who lives reasonably local to me who might be able to help you or if not know of someone who can. He isn't particularly cheap but then he is the real deal not some blo... cowboy who professes to be a gardener but in reality is no more than a labourer whose idea of gardening is to chainsaw anything above waist height!
if you plan on staying in your house for sometime I would try if bank balance allows it to get a proper job done once rather than a so so job which then needs redoing.
if you live roughly in my area and I can help PM me and I can give you the details of the gardener I know. He used to be a head gardener of a huge estate and castle in England, all very posh! He's one hell of a nice guy and extremely good at coming up with ideas. I have only employed him to help reduce an out of control beech hedge by 8 ft which was horrendously hard work but when, not if! I become totally crippled I wouldn't hesitate to employ him to keep my huge garden vaguely in check.

Thanks for your welcoming posts! Thanks for the recommendation Silu, bank balance is pretty tight just now, so more of a labourer type should be fine just now... I'm all about making it level grass first (have couple borders and hedges already) and easily managed and safe for my little boy! We've done the jcb digger work already. Think I'll think about plants next year!
