I have already posted in the 2013 tomato thread and had quite a few "welcomes" aldready so thought I ought to come in here and introduce myself properly. I am not a novice gardener but I am still learning. Normally grow chillies, peppers, herbs and various flowers from seed - hubby makes his own scotch bonnet chilli sauces - Nowadays I prefer the jalapeno types either pickled or poppers. Always looking for something to propagate. I am also retired.

I live in a flat in a house with a shared garden - my bit is fenced and gated - which is just as well as I share with a Rottweiller :doggieshmooze: Whole area is surrounded by large trees which gives seclusion to the garden but also means I need to grow in pots because of the overhanging trees that either drip or drop insects. Flower beds round the edge have Hydrangeas, hardy Fuchsias, Phlox, Hebes and more. Have tried (early) potatoes and other veg in containers but yield is not that good although flavour is fantastic. Planning on doing some garlic in Autumn - said this last year but missed the boat last year.

Like many of us I always grow too much (need to lern that I don't have to sow the whole packet :) - friends have a lot of it - I start germinating indoors in December (chillies, geraniums, begonia etc) and from then on I am juggling for space - have a couple of greenhouses and lots of the blow-away type ones. Got one of those Indoor Garden Growlights and a heat mat and of course my kitchen cupboards have lights which at the moment have peppers/and chillies under them.

Along with all this seed-growing, my latest passion is African Violets - can remember my nan having lots of them on her window-sills. Bought my first un-named variety from B&Q last May - propagated a few leaves - and now have half a dozen or so in different sizes - now the problem of getting them to flower !!! They are under the growlights at the moment - still got a couple of months as I believe they need 9 months to mature/flower and they rooted last August.

Anyway, that's me - can't wait for the weather to warm up - fed up with all the pots/trays and bags of compost indoors

HI welcome ... I had an african violet which lasted quite a few years. Amazingly resilient considering my black thumbs :love30:

Aha! A dog lover too, even better :doggieshmooze: I almost rescued a rotty, but Mr Mum said it was too big. Went back a few days later and adopted our Ozzy ... who is bigger than the rotty was (and sheds so much more!) :roflol:

Looking forward to getting to know you around the forums :)

Many thanks for the welcome(s). The Rottie is not mine - belongs to my neighbour downstairs - and as much as I love him - he loves to get into my garden whenever the opportunity arises - leaving lots of "calling cards" too - but as big as he is, I can handle him, so I am sure the rotties on here are really pussycats (of which I also have two )

Yes, not only do I have to learn not to sow the whole packet, I am the same with all the different varieties too lol.

Cold weather still playing havoc - but will post about it on another thread I have seen.

          :ThankYou: once again
