Hello from a field on the English/Welsh border! A couple of years ago I became the proud owner of an old barn which I am converting with the help of my fiance, along with three quarters of an acre of field which will one day be our garden! We are at 1000ft/300m altitude (though it's not as bleak as it sounds as the surrounding countryside is also quite high). I have fenced off a small area from the sheep, rabbits, deer etc. and it is serving as a small patch of civilisation with a flowerbed and lots of pots of plants and veg.
I am doing my best with the help of books but it's not really a substitute for good old experience! I am looking forward to being able to gain from this knowledge and maybe even being able to add some of my own!

Hi Sezzle - the borderlands are beautiful - I remember Church Stretton as a lovely place - are you anywhere near there???

Enjoy the forum - the folks here are so generous with their knowledge and it really fires up your enthusiasm.

Love to see some photos of your field and barn!

    Cookie!

Hi Sezzle and welcome to GC.

It certainly sounds like you have your work cut out for you, but it sounds like such an exciting project (so jealous that you have a barn to convert!) :)

In regard t pictures, do you have a flickr.com account? From there, you can upload your pictures and copy the picture link. Then you just paste it into your post here with [IMG] at the end :)

I look forward to your pictures :)

Finally managed to get some pictures on! Hurrah!
Yes, the lovely big oak tree is ours! It gets a pat every time I pass it... or should I keep that quiet?

Cookie: we're about an hour from Church Stretton, my Dad drove us up the Long Mynd in the snow once, very scary!
Thank you for the words of welcome everyone!

Ah.. The Long Mynd.... I remember it well - such beautiful countryside and stunning views - I parked up by the gliding club and watched the sun set over Wales once. You were brave going up in winter - I found the roads a handful in the summertime!

Anyone in the Midlands area should give this place a visit - it is very memorable!

Sezzle - your photos of your place look really lovely - I am so envious of how countrified you are! Tree huggers, patters, smoochers are all ok by me ! Especially oak trees - very druidical! Get some mistletoe growing in it for added magic! ;)
