Hello from Oxford Canal

    0) Hello! I saw this site and thought it looked great :gnthb:
    I live on a narrowboat on the Oxford canal and last year i started a roof top container edible garden, with great success! I also organise wild food foraging courses along the canal which i started last year to help myself and others in recognising wild edible foods (currently in the process of setting up this years forage :). I deeply want to study for the RHS level 2 in Horticulture and hope this site will help me with study and be able to chat to others with more experience.. bye for now peeps and look forward to some banter! 0)

    Hello naturalcanvas and welcome to the forum :) I don't know about canals but I watched a telly programme last year about people organizing food scavenges in towns and cities. It was quite amazing how much fruit was just going to waste on council land, they also planted a few veg here and there (again in forgotton council/public owned areas) so they could harvest them later.

    [​IMG] Naturalcanvas.. What a fantastic way to live.. We had a family narrow boat boat on the Brecon & Abergervenny years ago that we would use weekend high days & holidays.. I loved it except when it was so cold the condensation dripped on you..!! :hehe: I realise it won't be like that for you but it is a wonderful way of life... :gnthb: So "Welcome aboard" our garden forum.. We are a pretty friendly bunch on here & loads to see & do & I amn sure you will be able to teach us a little about container gardening then... :gnthb::D Look forward to seeing you around then.. :thmb:

    Yes its getting more popular now which is very encouraging :-) People dont realise quite how much food and medicine you can get completely free and its right on your doorstep !!
    Food prices have risen 80% in 10 years, the more people that are encouraged to grow there own and pick the fruits in the wild the better our standrds of living will increase. The disused waste lands which are in towns and cities could easily be transformed into community gardens and the produce shared. They could also be used for education and charity organisastions.
