    Hi Everyone,
My name's Mark and I have lived in the same house on an estate in Swindon for the last 20 years.

When my Wife and I first moved in the estate was quite new. We had problems with drainage, heavy clay, unworkable soil and lots of builders rubble which I found whenever I started to dig.

After years of soil improvement and landscape projects the garden now looks like I had planned it to look in the early days when we first moved in.

There are still things that I want to do to the garden but which will have to wait until I have the time and money to do them. Until then I am happy with the way things are. I'm still keen to try new plants and designes and hope to discuss them on this forum and learn from the rest of you.

    Hi mark

Isnt it frustrating that you had to wait so long and work sooo hard? mr pods mum was lucky in that when she moved to a new estate, the contractors had thought of the gardens and left them in a nice condition.
Anyway, its a great forum for help as Ive found out lately.

    Take care

Ola Mark and a warm, sunny welcome from me.

I can appreciate what you say because the non-garden here when we moved in was builders' rubble, old car bits and red clay. I piled the builders' rubble in two sections of the garden and covered it with the red clay mixed with substrata (compost with fertilizer) and I now have two lovely rockeries nearly ten years on.

    Enjoy the forum!

Thanks for the welcome everyone, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to have struggled with poor soil conditions.

I thought I would include a couple of photos of my garden so people can see what my efforts over the years have achieved.

The first was taken at the weekend ( ignore the date on the pic...it's wrong ) and the second was taken a couple of years ago.

    Thanks everyone,
I can't take credit for the baskets, my Wife does most of the pots, baskets and planters.

I tend to concentrate on the herbacious perenniels and the landscaping as well as soil preperation etc.
