Just joined the site - I had no idea it existed until yesterday, can't undestand how I missed it.

Anyways, I have been gardening for ** years and have moved to Otley recently with a nice long garden so I can grow lots of veggies. Also keep hens (but thats another addiction). This year I have been trying a few unusual veg type: Oca, Ulluco, Ground Cherries & Tomatillos. So far so good, but not eaten them yet!

Look forward to meeting you all.

Hello, AncientGardener, welcome from warm and sunny Portugal. Also, hello to you too, Sam1974x.

I'm neither into vegetables or hens but there are lots of folk here who share your likes.

    Enjoy!

Bonjour from France. (that's just me showing off)

Used to keep chooks until Bird Flu last year. Hatched them myself too (that was painful)

Can't wait to see your exotics.

Everyone I've met here is lovely and I'm becoming addicted to the place. So watch out!

    Happy foruming.

    Hi Ancient Gardener and welcome!
I understand there is a very fine horticultural college in Otley so I would guess if you have any problems you could go there for some advice (don't know about the bantams though?).
Could you maybe tell me what Ulluco are though cos I am clueless? How are the veggies going?
    Good to meet you!
    Kind regards
    Roy

Sorry for delayed reply. Been somewhat busy the last month writing some new software for chicken keepers...

I'm in Otley, West Yorkshire, a bit further north than the one with the college in Suffolk.

Here is a link to a company that sells ulluco and oca - both south american tubers. Use like spuds but not quite so many pests/diseases.

    http://www.realseeds.co.uk/unusualtubers.html

Both are doing well now even though the slugs adore the ulluco tops! Will have to wait and see what the yield is like in october/november...
