Trying to gorwo my own vegtables, but I live in the north on a hill side and everything seems to either die or grow malformed like some sort of genetic accident. So I'm here for hints and tips on how to grow noram things that don't scare the kids!!!

Hi - lived in north in Lancashire on a hillside myself for some years...soil/shelter important - I used to grow tasty stuff in big containers & narrow raised beds...soil did not wash away when usual winter/spring deluge hit (which it always did and my garden would look like a giant waterfall!) and i could move stuff about which looked like it needed TLC.

Where's the North EEF. I'm in Perthshire - are you north of me.
My tomatoes and grapes are getting on fine outside, along with everything else.
It's not all about how far north you are.
It's more about aspect and shelter.
Some of that can be managed.
Have a think about what weather aspects might be damaging your plants and come back with the problem - I think we could have some advice.

Sorry about the delay - been busy growing like mad!! I'm in North Yorskhire, it's not the fact I'm northern, its because I live on a hill side - but after LOTS of digging and wall building I am now producing edible produce - very pleased with my peppers, Chillies and now my mini apple trees ... also black berries, few carrots.. It's great I am TOTALLY addicted to gardening. :thmb:

Great news EEF and good to see you again.
As I said before it's not all about how far north you are.
It can all be done with careful management and some skill and care.
Take heart and we're here for you.
