    Hi Judith, welcome to GC.

Now, about the moss. The usual causes are poor drainage, shade or scalping the grass when cutting.

Are these lawns old establised? under tree shade and what sort of mower do you use and how often do you cut?

hi Alex-Adam, thanks for the reply re. moss, I have five areas of lawn the worst for moss is a shady part of the garden, surrounded by trees, the front lawn is on a slope and I find the bottom area of lawn has the most moss in it. I use a petrol mower and I cut the lawns at least once a week.

I had a bit of moss earlier this year, I just cut the area out and re-seeded it, but that was months ago, blended in with the old grass, now!
