    IHello Everyone,

I have just retired and what a wonderful way of filling up my time. I have been trying to do gardening before but just didn't have enough time to do it properly. I hope someone can help with some queries.of course one at a time.

About 10 years ago, my husband built a large compost bin made of concrete without a cover so rain goes in everytime it rains. We have been putting garden weeds, lawn mowings, leaves, wood , moss from the lawn and everything from the garden. We have just started using it,digging from the bottom and we still see some wood and a lot of moss and there are loads of centepedes in it. This moss doesn't looked decomposed. Are we suppose to put moss from the lawn in the same compost bin?Do they just take longer to decompost. Are this the kind of moss gardeners use to make peat moss? Can we use this compost?
I hope somebody can help as I am not sure whether or not this compost will be good for my veges.

Oh, by the way , I am letty. I am a retired pshychiatric nurse form Aylesbury. I love gardening although I need to learn more, that is why I have joined in to get help from you and might also share some of my knowledge to anyone.

Thank You very much in advance.

Welcome to the board Letty! I am not sure about your compost, I think it depends if seeds and such have got into it. Best post on the compost forum.
