    Hello to all,

Ive obtained some wood recently - bit sodden but will end up being used as raised beds - I need to make 5 4ftX11ft beds. I was going to buy some, but god blessed me with what I wanted right on my local beach. Going to use the surplus wood to make nest boxes.
What a sight it was seeing tons of it on my local beach!
Whos going to be the next lucky culprits?, still tons out there floating about heading towards the Thames.
Suggestions what I can make with wood welcome!

Hi Jamike, Lucky Find, if you have any left over why not build a couple of compost bins :)

I just wonder how long it has to float around until it becomes driftwood?

Capney - might turn up your way, it will probably be washed up all over the place for many months to come, so if you live anywhere near the sea keep a look out for it!

Youngdaiseydee - thanks for the suggestion.

It's being removed using huge 'grabbing' cranes by the contractors of the insurers, so I am guessing the owner is not bothered about getting it back, as its being broken up and damaged. What I have taken is a mere drop in the ocean compared to the other people 'going crazy' filling trucks, vans etc etc!

We waited on the beach at Dungeness for ages because we heard it was coming in there. Then we heard it had gone up the coast to Ramsgate. Well done Jamike.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard that if you fish stuff out while it is still actually in the sea, before it actually touches land, then the finder gets salvage rights by default (unless someone else has already been granted such rights). When it actually reaches shore and touches down, a different law applies though and you can't use the old salvage rights argument anymore.

Thats a shame boghopper hope some turns up! Thanks clueless1, although I have printed off a form called 'Report of Wreck and Salvage' from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to declare what I have taken. The wood is untreated & sodden and would need to be dried out well for the use of any building work, I have recycled a small amount of what has been destroyed by the clearence contractors. The raised beds are well on the way now, been busy building them in the evenings after work.

Unless it floats up the Grand Union Canal it will be of no help to me.:):)
