Hello I'm new here and have required a spear and jackson antique spade and wanted to know more about its date of manufacture and possibly how much it is worth. I've restored as best as I can rust wise, but want to leave the wood as it is.

Welcome to the forum Tom. I have no idea how old your spade is, it's very nice though.

What type of handle does it have?
Photo of handle and blade would be helpful.
Do you use still use it?

Think I would treat the handle with some linseed oil to prevent further cracking.
Do you have any history for it?

I'm wondering about the metal YD handle as quite often spades and forks from the 19th century had either a T handle or a solid D. The solid D type was intrinsically weaker than the the T or the wooden YD.
See here for reasonable example of solid D Vintage Spear & Jackson Neverbend No 2 Spade D handle spade Garden Digging | eBay
Problem is very few have dates associated with them.
Seems the going rate is £20.00 to £30.00.
