I'm a keen photographer and am still learning. Much like my garden abilities! Ha ha. A few of my favourites. Hi Freddy. Completely correct sir! They were resident on our lake and feasted on the small fish. They had their right to be there and added to the beautiful environment. However, the biggest problem was cormorants, now they were horrors. I tried to rescue a young Herron that fell out of his nest from up high while fishing underneath. I got very wet and failed as I got him onto the bank to wait for his mum to retrieve him. She never did and he was eaten by a fox during the night. The balance of nature! Wonderful but sometimes so cruel.

Aww thank you. Almost prehistoric. Some of the contortions they perform are amazing to watch. Still waiting for that fish captured in mouth shot.

I have a few photo's of a cormorant tackling a fish (a Dab I think) that was proving difficult to keep hold of, he eventually won the struggle. :)

The cormorants used to use our large and valuable carp as target practice and fly at them and bury their beaks into them. Not for food but just as a hunting skill?! They devastated our stock and we tried all sorts of deterrents ranging from cd's hanging from trees to entirely netting large areas. To see a cormorant powering itself under the water as fast as it can fly is a site to behold.

Would the presence of a heron deter a cormorant? I am thinking re. those heron statues you can buy to place near a pond (to deter other herons I think).
