    Hi to everyone!
I'm sure there have been a lot of new members during this lovely weather and the current situation we all find ourselves in. I'm Lorna, in Scotland, enjoy gardening (and the rewards) but would definitely say I'm a novice, so looking forward to all the advice/tips given. We have inherited an established (and not very well looked after) garden when we bought our house. Currently have plans to redo it; installing raised beds basically, trying to keep as many of the established trees/bushes as possible around the border, so there will no doubt be loads of questions asked in the coming weeks! :)

        Hi there and welcome!
Just yesterday I was watching a few videos from Charles Dowding on how he makes his no dig beds, and given we are a bit late in the season your post made me think of that.
The good thing is that the way he makes them is very fast, so perhaps easier if you need to get around existing plants, and allows for planting right away.
The bad thing is that it involves using a bunch of compost, which might be hard and/or expensive to source, dependently on your location.

This said, obviously there are many diffent and effective ways to make raised beds, but perhaps Dowding's method is worth checking out:

        Happy gardening :)

Interesting watch! We need to level the garden first as it slopes towards the house, and the water has been collecting under the current paving. Will need to be getting photos soon, but it certainly is a learning curve - throwing up as many questions as we go along basically.

Hi again everyone, I don't suppose anyone knows how to move bamboo? We have a clump of it in the corner and would love to spread it out in a row along the raised bed to create some kind of privacy.

Oh and here's the garden! Some work has been done since the first post - the fir trees have been taken out, and a taller fence installed at the side of the house. Will need to post photos as we go, but it's slow going as we only really have weekends to work on it. It certainly doesn't look this 'tidy' now
