    Hi

My name is Laura and I have just started out with a small plot in the garden and a small green house. At the moment I have a LOT of tomato plants, cucumbers, lettuce, sweetcorn, squash, pumpkins, Aubergine, sweet peppers, chillie peppers, peas, beans, carrotts and brussels. All looking good and healthy at the moment, but after reading the boards I'm not sure how long that will last. I've read a little on the net and pretty much followed the directions on the packets, looking forward to getting some real advice from people who know :)

I have a few nastursians, love in the mist, lavender, and herbs grown from seed and some Fuchsia bought from a local garden centre...I am looking at sowing winter flowers now so am going to ask advice on what would grow well.:)

Hi Laura, going on from what coub asks, I think many people post their problems on here and need advice for issues they don't normally face, and not too many are posting up their successes. A large percentage of the time growing stuff is straightforward and we mostly all get good results. So maybe you are seeing the exceptions on here, don't be put off, its in our nature to turn to others for help when we are faced with a situation we haven't faced before, but its a 'British' thing to be reserved and not talk about our successes, but there are one or two on here that do just that - have a look around and you will find them!

I think it's because I am just seeing my first fruits and getting all excited and it seems to be at that point that things go wrong...To be honest though, it's my first year and I would be bursting with happiness to get one tomato out of everything I have sown.

It has been helpful to read about certain things like my cucumbers and watering away from the stem because I have 6 very healthy looking plants at the moment but watering the way I was that may have not lasted.
