Hello folks,

I'm 23 and from Cambridgeshire.

Recently started bonsai with a newly acquired tree from someone that had neglected it since purchase ( 4 months ago ) and wanted to get rid of it.

I'm still in the process of finding out what it is and what, if any, special treatment it might need.

Asides from that, I decided to dive in at the deep end, probably not the best of ideas... and bought some Chinese Elm seeds. They should hopefully arrive within the week.

I wanted to start with Japanese Maple, but from what I've read, the dormency period prior to remotely successful germination is a long, long time.
I think in the future I'll definitely do it.


On a more related note, I've always been around gardening and a lot of my family members have some really amazing gardens. I've only really decided recently to be more involved in it and try it myself.

Looks like there's a lot of great information here and I really can't wait to start reading through it all! P.S. Some really beautiful pictures people have taken as well!

Welcome Winterfell. There are a few members here interested in Bonsai, so they will help you out. It's always good to have another gardener on board. There's a few nutty one's here though, so beware!
