    I'm a novice gardener, we've just moved into a new house, previous owner was an avid gardener but had been ill for a while so it's pretty much a blank slate/jungle depending on how pessimistic I'm feeling...

    We're in SE London so assuming we're clay(?), mostly raised beds thanks to previous owner, to add to the fun it's north/NE facing, will add pics tomorrow.

    My goals for this year are;
    clear the plants/trees/weeds i don't want.
    Plan the garden, focusing on being child/wildlife friendly
    Grow something (anything!) edible

    Very limited on time atm as I'm a stay at home mum to 3 lovely but demanding children (who are 3. 1 & 4weeks old) so working around when I can palm them off on others.

    Looking forward to getting to know everyone, picking up tips & trimming the length of my posts, sorry for the epic life story!

    Welcome to GC GaryBuseysTeeth. :) It sounds like you've got your work cut out with three youngsters to care for. There are 22 months between each of my three so I know where you're at! Good luck with the garden, some pictures at a later point would be good to see. :)

      Hi Gary, welcome to Gardeners Corner!!:thumbsup::snork:
      You'll know if it's clay when the rain doesn't disappear into the soil and then in the Summer when it cracks in the heat!!!:hate-shocked: There are quite a few GC members who have clay soils in their gardens and they, I am sure, will be able to give you good advice on how to cope.:coffee::snork:

          Hello. @GaryBuseysTeeth
          Start with basic tidying up, repairs and making safe, but don't rush into too much clearing until things start to grow and you can get some idea of what you have already.
          As for something edible to grow peas and beans are a good start. They can be grown in the raised beds or in pots.
