    Hello everyone,

I am new to this gardening business and have recently come back from holiday to find that my Pennee (hopefully this is the correct spelling) and the leaves on my apple trees have black spots on them and the leaves look as though they are dying. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to treat it?
    Any help would be great.

The peonies, (if that`s correct) probably have a mild fungal disease called peony wilt. If they are close together or old this will develop-plus it`s been very wet so that will contribute too. Remove the affected foliage and dispose of by either burning or throwing in normal rubbish-they can reinfect otherwise. If they are too close together then you can divide and space out, if everything is perfect then it will be the weather I expect and if there is enough good foliage left they will flower as normal next year. Top dress them with a bit of compost but without it actually touching the stems-or you will have the problem again.

I have had a go at using a Bordeaux Mix on mine this year to help ward off any fungal infection, I will only know next yr if this has been successful.

I don`t know about the apple tree, but it will probably have some other type of infection like this too-pics will help the more knowledgabe members diagnose the problem with this.

PS have you any pics anyway of your peonies? My fave flower and I love just looking at them.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

Hiya elaine and welcome to GC.

I think that peonies start to die back down soon anyway so I would not worry about them.

Same could be said for the apple tree - they will lose their leaves soon - I sometimes spray mine with a winter tar wash - you might want to this when all the leaves have gone. Have you a decent crop of apples on there?
