Hello all I am new to the page and was looking for advice on how to tackle this. I would normally ask my nan but unfortunately she's not with us. It flowered over a year ago but then started to die so I chopped it down as someone said it will grow again and now its like this. Could I chop some roots out and plant them into pots and if so how would you recommend to do it please.

Hello Jackjollygreen. It's a Cordyline. They grow on a single trunk unless they're damaged, then they put out multiple stems. As you discovered, you can chop them down and start again but ultimately it 's going to want to be a tree.

Yes i would love to keep it and maybe have some in smaller pots to give to other family members and just have one stem coming from the top ideally so i can have more natural light coming into my living room

You just cut back any stems you dont want, so if you just want one stem leave the strongest and remove the smaller ones.

I've never found them easy to root from side shoots but they do grow sometimes, probably easier to just buy new plants if you want more.
